About the Official Danish Education Programme

The Danish Education Programmes consist of 5 or 6 modules. Each module is completed with an official module test, which must be passed in order to proceed to the next module. Module tests may be oral or written, or both. Your teacher will assess when you are ready for the test. When your test has been planned, you teacher will inform you of the date and instruct you on how to prepare for the test.

The final module is completed with Prøve i Dansk, the final exam.

The final exam - Prøve i Dansk - is the official, state-controlled exam that completes the programme. There is both an oral and a written part. With Prøve i Dansk (PD) you receive documentation of your Danish language level. You can use this documentation when applying for, e.g. permanent residence permit, citizenship, or admission to a higher education requiring a Danish exam.

• Studieprøven: completes module 6 in Danish Education Programme 3

Studieprøven:

The Study Test - Studieprøven - is an extra module in Danish Education Programme 3. If you pass PD3 with good grades, you may qualify for module 6.

With Studieprøven, you may apply for Danish higher education, as it is often the Danish language requirement for admission to Danish study programmes.

The Danish Education Programme consists of three independent programmes, based on the educational background and needs of the course participants. The programmes are organised based on The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Or in short: CEFR. Below is a visualization of the three programmes along with the CEFR-levels.

Below the model is a short description of each programme.

Danish Education Programme 1 (DU1)

• Intended participants: those with little or no schooling from their home country, or those not familiar with the Latin alphabet.
• Lesson focus: we focus mainly on spoken Danish, but also on reading and writing simple messages in Danish.
• Course goal: You will learn Danish to a level where you can actively participate in your workplace and manage everyday situations in Danish. For example when speaking to coworkers, going grocery shopping, or interacting with personnel in your children's day care.

Danish Education Programme 2 (DU2)

• Intended participants: those with at least a short educational background from their home country.
• Lesson focus: we emphasize oral skills so you become good at speaking and understanding Danish. But you will also learn to read and write simple texts and messages in Danish.
• Course goal: You will reach a level that allows you to participate actively in work, leisure activities and society in general. You will also be able to apply for shorter courses or educational programmes in Danish.

Danish Education Programme 3 (DU3)

• Intended participants: those with at least a medium-length or higher educational background from their home country, and who knows one or more European languages and have a basic understanding of grammar.
• Lesson focus: all four linguistic disciplines are in focus: speaking, understanding, reading, and writing. In the beginning, the topics will be related to your everyday life. Later on, we will examine and discuss relevant, societal topics, read news paper articles and so forth.
• Course goal: You will study Danish at a level that lets you actively participate in your workplace, in leisure activities, and in society. You will reach a level where you can either find work in the Danish labour market or get an education in Denmark.
